Liebe liebe Menschen!!

Es ist fast Weihnachten, und viele werden sich Gedanken machen was sie zu Weihnachten kochen wollen und werden.
Auch ich bin eine leidenschaftliche Köchin, und möchte euch gerne dieses Rezept weitergeben, und damit meine vom Herzen tiefsten Wünsche:
Nimm dich selbst, öffne dein Herz und schaue was du da findest.
Schaue dir an was du davon für dich selbst zu Nutzen machen kannst, und dann, wenn du das getan hast, was du geben kannst an andere.
Gib nur wenn du es mit Liebe und Leidenschaft tun kannst, rede nur, wenn du überzeugt bist, dass das was du sagst, gesagt werden muss und es die einzige Art ist es zu sagen, handele ausschließlich mit Liebe und in der Überzeugung handeln zu müssen.
Weiß, das eine Mahlzeit lecker schmeckt und gut verdaulich ist, wenn sie mit Liebe und Freude gekocht und zubereitet worden ist. Aber ohne diese beiden Zutaten, wird die Mahlzeit schwer im Magen liegen und sich lange, ungewollt, bemerkbar machen.
Ich schicke euch dieses Rezept mit meiner Leidenschaft und Liebe für Mensch, Tier, Pflanz und den ganzen Kosmos. Und ich hoffe diese Liebe darf ein bisschen abfärben, und ihre eigene Farbe in den Menschen entwickeln, die meine Nachricht andächtig lesen.

So heißt das Projekt in Kenia, und wird der Name von dem „Trust“ sein dass ich/wir dort gründen. Zum vereinfachen heißt es in Deutschland:
KENIA WACH AUF!

Warum dieses Projekt wenn es so viele gibt und warum ist es anders?

In Kenia angekommen fielen mir die Gesichtlein der Kinder auf; die Augen sprachen von Angst und Verzweiflung.

Kinder werden nicht erzogen; sie werden nicht umarmt und geliebt sondern die meiste Kinder werden als nicht-erwünscht geboren. Die Mädchen weil Mädchen nichts wert sind, die Jungs weil deswegen die Frauen immer wieder geschwängert werden bis der heiß erwünschten Sohn geboren wird. Diese Art von in die Welt kommen und in dieser Welt leben, verursacht eine Apathie und Gleichgültigkeit da diese Kinder keine Liebe, keine Zuwendung, sondern Prügel und Schimpfen als erste Botschaft mitkriegen. Daraus entsteht dann eine Bevölkerung die nicht sieht warum das Leben es wert ist zu leben. Also machen sie nicht viel um ihre Situation zu verbessern.

Das verursacht eine Gesellschaft mit bestimmten Merkmalen. Und diese Ursache wollen wir versuchen den Menschen da klar zu machen und helfen zu verändern.

Das Ergebnis wird sein (auf Dauer…) dass die andere Entwicklungsprojekten auch helfen können etwas dauerhaft zu verändern.

Was wollen wir tun?

Wir wollen versuchen den Frauen zu vermitteln dass sie Wert haben: sie u.a. weisen auf ihre Fähigkeiten und Intelligenz.
Wir wollen zeigen wie man Kinder erzieht und warum dieses wichtig ist.
Wir wollen ein Heim bauen wo geschwängerte Mädchen ihre Kinder in Sicherheit und Friede auf die Welt bringen können und lernen wie man sie großzieht.
Wir wollen ein Auffangszentrum für Frauen bauen, die irgendwelche Gewalt ausgesetzt sind oder waren und daraus geflüchtet sind, wo wir Frauen vermitteln können wie, wenn sie sich selbst als wertvoller Mensch entdecken, ihre Kinder anders oder überhaupt erziehen können und damit eine ganz andere Gesellschaft schöpfen.

Um dieses zu erreichen wollen wir Lebenslehrer, wir werden sie „Lels“ nennen, ausbilden, wovon dreiviertel Frauen sein werden. Der Grund dafür ist dass wir so Frauen zeigen können dass sie „jemand“ sind/werden können. Der Grund dass auch Männer dabei sind ist a. weil die meisten Menschen in Kenia Männer besser zuhören und als Autorität anerkennen, b. um zu zeigen dass wir den Männer nicht feindlich gegenüberstehen und c. weil es Männer gibt die dieses sehr gut finden und ihren Beitrag liefern wollen.
Ich werde die Menschen ausbilden und zeigen, dass mit einer Form der Improvisation (Theater) es anschaulich wird für die Frauen und Kinder ihre Situation zu sehen; dann mal in einer dramatischen Form sodass die weinen, dann mit viel Humor damit sie lachen können. Beide Forme wird einen Eindruck hinterlassen.
Natürlich werden die Lels auch normal mit den Menschen reden, aber nur reden wird schnell langweilig werden und sie werden die Aufmerksamkeit der Menschen schnell verlieren.

Was brauchen wir?

Wir brauchen Geld damit wir den Trust gründen können (ist inkl. Reisekosten nach Kenia), ein Grundstück kaufen können um die beide Gebäude sowie auch eine kleine Wohnung bauen können. Die Wohnung soll für diejenige zu Verfügung stehen, die dort vor Ort aus Europa als Freiwilliger helfen und Aufsicht halten. Wir werden ein oder zwei Auto(s) brauchen da die Dörfer weit auseinander liegen. Wir wollen ein Bureau errichten wo wir auch für Touristen erreichbar sind, wo wir Versammlungen abhalten können, Internetzugang haben und eventuell (muss noch durchdacht werden) Produkten die durch Betroffenen hergestellt werden verkauft werden können.
Die Lels werden ein Gehalt bekommen müssen, dass zwar nicht sehr viel ist, aber die Menschen da müssen alle bezahlt werden.

Wie wollen wir das bekommen?

*In Ibiza ist ein e.V. gegründet worden, die Registrierungsnummer ist 311000007732 im Register für “Asociaciones de Baleares”, wodurch wir eine legale Basis haben wo wir Spendenscheinen ausstellen können. Die Bank ist , en Plza Enrique Fajarnes no. 6, 07800 Eivissa(=Ibiza) Baleares, Spanien, mit dem Kontonummer: 2056 0015 68 4102 00 3385, und der Kontoinhaber ist Asociacion Kenya Despierta (auf Deutsch wäre das e.V. *Auch werden wir hier versuchen Veranstaltungen zu organisieren um spenden zu sammeln.
*Wir versuchen mit anderen Organisationen zusammen zu arbeiten die schon Erfahrung haben, da dieses für mich/uns Neugebiet ist. Damit meine ich sowohl Organisationen die uns finanziell helfen können als die, die uns mit ihren Erfahrung wichtige Informationen geben können die uns helfen weniger Anfangsschwierigkeiten zu haben.
*Die Projekte sollen mit der Zeit sich selbst tragen, sodass wir schauen werden was für Produkten da hergestellt werden können dessen Verkauf das weitere finanzieren kann.
*Wir wollen versuchen Autofirmen zu zeigen dass sie mit der Spende eines Autos positive Werbung bekommen. Wir werden das Logo des Projektes zusammen mit dem der Autofirma (z.B. Mercedes supports with the donation of this car the AMKA MAISHA YANAKUNGOJA PROJECT) auf das Auto machen lassen, damit es einen Reiz hat für die Autofirma. (jede(r) der Kontakten zu Autofirmen hat, kann das für uns machen, da wir so keine Kontakten haben; wir sind für jede Hilfe dankbar!)


Sonstiges

In Deutschland, am Bodensee in Überlingen-Bambergen wird zur Zeit auch ein e.V. errichtet was dann sein eigenes Konto haben wird und wo man genauso Spenden auf überweisen kann.
Wir werden versuchen Freiwilliger zu finden die ihre Reise und bleiben in Kenia selbst finanzieren, jedoch mit den Menschen arbeiten und ein Auge auf dem Projekt halten, damit das getan wird was wir von dem Projekt wollen.
Es gibt Kontakt mit einem Clown-schule, die möglicherweise Leute von dort ausbilden als Clown, um auf andere Art die Situation anschaulich zu machen.

That is the name of the Project in Kenya, and will be the name of the Trust that I/we will found there. We will have two N.G.O.s to support this and collect donations, one in Germany with the name:
KENIA WACH AUF!
And one in Ibiza, with the name Kenya Despierta.( both meaning: Kenya wake up)

Why this project when there are so many projects already and why is this different?

While in Kenya what hit me were the children’s faces; the eyes that spoke of fear and despair.

Children are not brought up; they don’t get hugged nor loved; worse, most kids are born unwanted. The girls are unwanted because girls/women have no value, the boys because the women get raped again and again until the hotly desired son is born. This way of arriving into this world and living in it, causes an apathy and indifference as these children don’t receive love and attention but mal-treatment and scolding as their first message. From that a population grows that does not see why life is worth living. That is why they don’t do very much to improve their Situation.

This causes a society with particular characteristics. And this cause is what we want to try to make clear to these people and help them to change

Eventually the result of this will be that other projects for develoment etc. will have more effect and will also be able to cause a permanent change.

What do we want to do?

We want to try to make clear to the women that they have value: showing them their abilities and intelligence.
We want to show them how to bring up children and why this is important.
We want to build a home where pregnant young girls can give birth in security and peace and learn how to bring up their children.
We want to build a centre to help those women who were victim of some sort of violence and escaped it, where we can make clear to them that, when they discover there worth, they can bring up their children differently and so create a whole different society.

To achieve this we want to train teachers of life, we will call them tols, of which 3 quarter will be women. The reason for this is that we show the women this way that they can be and become “someone”. The reason we also will train men is a. because most people in Kenya listen better to men and acknowledge them as authorities; b. to show that we don’t see men as our enemy; c. because there are men who like our project and want to support actively.
I will train these people and show, that with for example the technique of improvisation (theatre) it is clearer for these women and children to recognize their situation; once in a dramatic way to bring them to tears, then with lots of humour so they can laugh. Both ways will leave an impression.

Of course these Tols will also talk normally to people, but just talking will be boring to them and they will loose the attention as well as the people themselves soon.

What to we need?

We need money so we can found a Trust (also the costs fort he journey to Kenya), buy a piece of land to build the two buildings and a small apartment. This apartment will be at the disposition to those who come from Europe and will help their as volunteers and who will control the work.
We will need one or two car(s) as the villages are wide apart.
We want to create an office where we will be reachable for tourists, where we can hold meetings, have Internet access and possibly (needs to be worked out yet) can sell products made by the people carried by the project.
The Tols need to receive a salary which does not need to be high, yet the Kenyan people all need payment.

How do we want to get this?

*We will also try to organise events to collect donations.
*We try to work together with other Organisations that already have experience, as this is all very new to me/us. I mean here organisations that can help us financially as well as those who can give us, because of their experience, important information as to have less initial problems.
*In time these projects must carry themselves, which means we look what kind of product we can produce whose sale can finance the future.
*We want to try to show car producers that by donating a car they get positive publicity. We will put the logo of the project together with that of the car brand on the car, so they have a reason to help us ( for example Mercedes supports with the donation of this car the AMKA MAISHA YANAKUNGOJA PROJECT. (every body who has contacts to firms producing cars can do this for us, as we have no contacts; we are grateful for all help!)


Others

In Germany, at the lake of Constanze in Überlingen-Bambergen we are also founding a N.G.O. that will have it’s own bank account where one can transfer donations to. We try to find volunteers who can fincance their journey and their stay to and in Kenya themselves, yet work with the people there and keep an eye on the project, sot that the goal of the project will be respected.

We have contact to a Clown-school, where possibly some Kenyan people can get trained as clowns, so we can show the situation in Kenya to the affected ones in a very different way.

We would be super very grateful when you would open your heart to our project and donate; also other ways of help are welcome. If you have for example a car to donate, or building materials and you can get it there yourselves, you would be of great help!!

¿POR QUÉ RIA COMENZÓ ESTE PROYECTO? SU PUNTO DE VISTA.

La razón por la que empecé este proyecto es por la impresión que tuve cuando comencé a ver a los niños y a la mayoría de adultos en Kenia. Espero que Salim me perdone lo que voy a escribir, pero tengo que escribir lo que es, con todo el amor que siento hacia la gente de Kenia, aunque afortunadamente existen excepciones.

ESTO ES MUY IMPORTANTE PARA MI: QUE SEPAIS QUE TODA ESTA GENTE CONSIGUIÓ OCUPAR UN LUGAR MUY ESPECIAL EN MI CORAZÓN, llegué incluso a llorar cuando me marché de allí.

Una de las primeras cosas que noté, fue cuanto miedo, cuanta desesperación en la mirada de la mayoría de los niños. Cuando observaba a los adultos, las mujeres llamaban mi atención con su mirada de desconfianza y miedo mientras que los hombres, con curiosidad y desprecio a la misma vez, pero al mismo tiempo ambos con aletargamiento y/o con apatía.

Mucha gente acudía a mí para pedirme que pagara las tasas de las escuelas de sus hijas. Las niñas no tienen oportunidad. Puedo hacerlo con una pero no tengo medios financieros para más ya que yo tengo que trabajar duro para vivir… La mayoría de lo que gano va dirigido a proyectos y costes de viajes.

Así observé, escuché y sentí (¿) qué(?)es a por lo que he venido.

Mi trabajo trata de encontrar la causa de un problema. Ya sea enfermedad, problema o situación… Y eso es lo que he intentado hacer aquí también. Así que esperé hasta que vi..

Las mujeres tienen muy poco valor en Kenia. Lo tienen complicado. Tienen que obedecer a sus maridos, trabajar duro y mantener la casa.
Los hombres hacen lo que ellos quieren, a veces trabajar, a veces no. Tampoco apoyan suficientemente a sus familias.
Esto significa que las mujeres tienen que ver como ellas se las arreglan para alimentar a todos, vestirlos, etc… Ellas son las que tienen que ir a buscar madera para cocinar, lavar e ir a por agua, etc… Siempre están muy ocupadas y tienen que dar a luz a un hijo. Pero muy a menudo tienen una niña.

El hombre la hará que ella tenga hijos (nosotros diríamos que las violan), hasta que un hijo varón nace. Muy a menudo tiene varias hijas hasta que llega el varón.
Ella tienen que alimentarlos y cuidarlos que siñifica que la dan trabajo, así que ella los resiente y no los educa. Por lo tanto, cuando el varón nace ella le resiente igualmente, porqué él es la razón de que ella ya tuviera estas hijas.

Estos niños no crecen con amor y cuidados. A veces son golpeados, ya que es una forma normalizada de disciplina; las niñas son violadas con frecuencia. Ellos no reciben educación, caminan y deambulan por el pueblo, cuidados por otros niños o mujeres pero sin el amor de los brazos y los labios de una madre, que está orgullosa de ellos.

Esto significa que en muchos de los niños, la mayoría, no son deseados. Un niño que no es deseado en Kenya no tiene nada, porque el afecto es la única cosa de la que podrían estar llenos, y no depende del clima, dinero o naturaleza…

Todavía no hay nada de esto. Los niños crecen sin esperanza de nada, como sus padres que no les enseñan las posibilidades que hay en este mundo maravilloso. Por lo tanto, ellos tienen el sentimiento de que este mundo no vale mucho. Esto causa un desinterés en la vida, excepto cuando les permiten ir a la escuela, y tienen algo interesante que hacer. La escuela es el único lugar en donde he visto a niños riendo..

En clase hay mucha disciplina que me parecia maravillosa (en las escuelas españolas los niños son muy ruidosos!!), pero por desgracia es, porque los niños son castigados con una caña si no se comportan bien. Esto es duro. Aunque el estado prohíbe que los niños sean castigados de forma fisica en las escuelas.

Principalmente, por aquí es por donde a mi me gustaría comenzar. A enseñar que los niños necesitan ser criados. Esta educación comienza en el momento de su nacimiento. Los niños necesitan amor desde el primer momento que están en el vientre de sus madres. ¿ Y como podemos hacer esto y por qué…?

Antes necesitamos enseñar a las mujeres y a los hombres que las mujeres son valiosas para la comunidad y la sociedad. Así su estatus subirá y ellos podrán hacer y decidir cosas que son buenas para ellos, sus hijos, y por supuesto, para todos!!!

Si llevamos esto a cabo en Kenya podríamos ser capaces de continuar en otros países africanos y en definitiva ayudar a crear un mundo mejor para todos nosotros!!!

Ria's Sichtweise

Der Grund dass ich dieses Projekt starte ist wegen den Eindruck den ich bekam im Moment dass ich die Kinder und die meiste Erwachsenen in Kenia anschaute. Ich hoffe dass Salim mich vergibt für das was ich hier schreiben werde, aber ich muss schreiben so wie es ist, obwohl es, Gott sei dank, Ausnahmen gibt, und ich schreibe mit all meine Liebe für die Kenianische Bevölkerung. DIESES IST EXTREM WICHTIG FÜR MICH: DASS IHR WISST DASS DIESE MENSCHEN ES GESCHAFFT HABEN EINEN SEHR BESONDEREN PLATZ IN MEINEM HERZEN EINZUNEHMEN; ich habe sogar geweint beim weggehen.

Eine der ersten Sachen die mir auffielen war wie ängstlich, hoffnungslos und verzweifelt der Blick in den Augen der meisten Kinder ist. Als ich die Erwachsene beobachtete, waren es die Frauen die meine Aufmerksamkeit riefen mit ihrem Blick voller Mistrauen und Angst, die Männer mit Neugier und Herablassendheit und zu gleicher zeit beide mit Lethargie und/oder Apathie.

Vielen Menschen kamen zu mir und fragten mich das Schulgeld für ihre Töchter zu bezahlen.
Töchter haben keine Chance. Ich realisierte mich dass ja, ein Kind kann ich unterstützen, jedoch habe ich keine finanzielle Mittel um mehr zu finanzieren da ich hart für mein Brot arbeiten muss. Das meiste was ich verdiene geht in Projekten und Reisekosten...

Ich beobachtete, hörte zu, und fühlte…was(?) ist es, wofür bin ich hierher gekommen?
Meine arbeit beschäftigt sich immer mit dem finden der Ursache, egal ob von Krankheit, Problem oder Situation. Und genau das war was ich hier auch versuchte. Also wartete ich und sah….

Frauen in Kenia habe kaum wert. Deswegen haben sie es hart. Sie müssen ihren Mann gehorchen, hart arbeiten und die Haushalt im gang halten.
Die Männer tun was sie wollen; manchmal arbeiten sie, oft nicht. Sie unterstütze ihre Familien nicht genug, auch nicht finanziell.

Das heißt dass die Frauen sehen müssen wie sie all diese Kinder satt kriegen…und sie gekleidet bekommen usw. Sie müssen Feuerholz zum kochen suchen, waschen, Wasser holen und kochen usw. Sie sind jeden Tag sehr beschäftigt und… sie müssen einen Sohn gebären. Jedoch oft wenn sie ein Kind gebären ist es ein Mädchen.
Der Mann wird ihr zwingen Bébies zu bekommen (wir würden sagen: sie vergewaltigen) bis der Sohn geboren ist. Oft hat sie viele Töchter bevor der Sohn geboren wird. Sie muss sie füttern und auf sie aufpassen und sie bedeuten viel arbeit, also trägt sie sie nach und erzieht sie nicht. Dann, wenn der Sohn geboren wird trägt sie ihn auch nach, denn er ist der Grund dass sie all diese Kinder schon hat.

Diese Kinder werden nicht mit Liebe und Fürsorge erzogen. Sie werden oft geschlagen; ein normaler Art sie zu disziplinieren; Mädchen werden oft vergewaltigt. Sie bekommen keine Erziehung. Sie gehen und kriechen durchs dorf, und aufgepasst wird durch einige der anderen Kinder oder der Mutter, jedoch ohne liebevolle Armen und Lippen einer Mutter die froh ist sie zu haben.

Das heißt das viele der Kinder, die Mehrheit, ungewünscht ist. Ein ungewünschtes Kind in Kenia hat nichts… denn das einzige wovon es reichlich geben könnte weil es nicht vom Klima, Geld oder der Natur abhängig ist, ist Zuneigung…

Aber davon gibt es nicht reichlich. Kinder wachsen auf ohne Hoffnung auf irgend etwas, da ihre Eltern nicht zeigen was in dieser wunderbaren Welt möglich ist. Also haben sie das Gefühl dass es nicht viel wert ist.
Dies verursacht eine Desinteresse am Leben, außer für die, die in die Schule dürfen.
Schule bedeutet normalerweise Essen und Kleidung, und etwas interessantes zum tun. Die Schule war der einzige Platz wo ich Kinder lachen sah. Trotzdem ist hier die wunderbare Disziplin die ich so bewunderte (in Spanische Schulen sind die Kinder SEHR laut!!) verursacht durch dass sie mit einem stock geschlagen werden wenn sie sich nicht gut benehmen. Das ist hart. Obwohl der Staat es verbietet Kinder in der Schule körperlich zu tüchtigen.

Deswegen möchte ich bei dem Beginn anfangen. Zu zeigen dass Kinder erzogen werden müssen. Dass Erziehung bei der Geburt anfängt. Ein Kind braucht Liebe vom Moment dass es bei der Mutter im Bauch wächst. Und wie wir dieses tun und warum.

Deswegen brauche wir Frauen UND Männer zu zeigen dass Frauen für die Gemeinschaft wichtig sind; für die Gesellschaft. Damit ihr Status besser wird und sie Dingen tun und entscheiden können die für sie, ihre Kinder und deswegen für die ganze Gemeinschaft gut sind!!!

Wenn wir dies in Kenia schaffen, können wir vielleicht in andere Afrikanische Länder damit weiter gehen und damit tragen wir ganz bestimmt dazu bei dass diese Welt eine bessere Welt wird für uns alle!!!

why Ria starts this project? Her view

The reason I start this project is because of the impression I got when I started to see the children and most of the adults in Kenya. I hope Salim forgives me for what I am going to write, but I have to write how it is, although there are, fortunately, exceptions, with all the love I feel for the Kenyan people.
THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO ME: THAT YOU KNOW THAT THESE PEOPLE MANAGED TO OCCUPY A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART; I even cried when I left there.

One of the first things I noticed was how afraid, how hopeless and desperate the look in the eyes of most children is. When I observed the adults, the women called my attention with the look of distrust and fear, the men with curiosity and contempt at the same time and both with lethargy and/or apathy.

Many people came to me to ask me to pay the school fees for their daughters. Daughters have no chance. I realised that yes, one child I can support, yet I just have no means of supporting financially any more as I have to work hard for a living. Most of what I earn goes into projects and travel costs.

I observed, listened, and felt… what(?) is it, I have come for.

My work is always about finding the cause of the matter, whether illness, problem or situation. And that was what I tried to do here too. So I waited until I saw…

Females have very little worth in Kenya. So women have it hard. They have to obey their husband, work hard and keep the household going.
The men do what they like, sometimes work, often don’t. They don’t support their families enough financially.
This means the women have to see how they manage to feed all those mouths… and get them dressed etc. They have to look for wood to cook, wash and get water etc. they are very busy every day and… they have to bear a son. Yet often when they bare a child it is a girl.


The man will make her have babies, (we would say rape her) until the son is born. Often she has many girls before the boy is born.
She has to feed them and look after them and they mean work, so she resents them and does not bring them up. Then when the boy is born she resents him too, for he is the reason she had all these kids already.

These children are not brought up with love and care. They are often beaten, a normal way to discipline them; girls often get raped. They get no education. They walk and crawl in the village, looked after by some of the other kids or the mother but without the loving arms and lips of a mother who is glad to have them.


This means that many of the children, the majority, is unwanted. An unwanted child in Kenya has nothing… because affection is the only thing there could be plenty of as it does not depend on climate, money or nature.

Yet there is not plenty of this. The children grow up without the hope of anything, as their parents don’t really show them what is possible in this wonderful world. So they have the feeling it is not worth a lot.
This causes a disinterest in life, except for if they are allowed to go to school. School means usually food and clothing, and something interesting to do. School was the only place I saw children laughing. Yet also here the wonderful discipline I so admired (in Spanish schools kids are VERY loud!!) comes about as the children get caned if they don’t behave well. This is tough. Although the state prohibits kids getting beaten at schools.



That is why I would like to start at the bottom. To teach that children need to be brought up. That education starts at the very moment of birth. A child needs love from the moment it has entered mommy’s tummy. And how we do this and why.

Therefore we need to show the women AND the men that women are valuable for the community; the society. So that their status becomes higher and they can do and decide things that are good for them, their children, and therefore of course for the whole!!!!


If me manage this in Kenya, we might be able to go on with it in other African countries and are definitely helping to create a better world for all of us!!!

COMO SALIM VE SU PUEBLO Y COMO LO DESCRIBE

El proximo texto sobre el pueblo Makongeni ha sido escrito y preparado por Salim con ayuda de Mwanajuma. Es una respuesta a mi pedido de escribir sobre su gente. En cuando Salim nos invitó a “su” pueblo me contaba mucho de su gente, y fué tanta informacíon que no me pude recordar todo.
Sin embargo tengo la sensacíon que, por el amor a su gente, el ha descrito todo mas de color rosa de lo que yo lo he visto. En un otro correo describiré mis impresiones desde el punto de vista de un Europeo.
Publico este correo con grande gratitut hacia los dos autores, y con amor, respeto y compasion hacia las gente Kenyana, especialmente las mujeres, los niños y los pocos hombres como Salim, que se dedican a causar cambio.


INTRODUCCÍON

Makongeni es un pueblo que se encuentra en la costa del Sur de Kenya. La palabra ‘Makonge-ni’ simplemente se refiere al sitio donde crecia Sisal. Originalmente, el sitio era campo de cultivo para la sisal-plantacíon, de alli el nombre se deriva.
Ubicacíon Geografica

El pueblo Makongeni se encuentra unas diez millas de la ciudad Ukunda, en la costa Sur de Kenya. Se connecta con la carretera Mombasa-Lunga lunga. A pesar su cercanía a Diani beach, él sitio de turismo en la costa Kenyana, no hay muchos turistas que se acercan al milagro de este sitio fascinante y unico.

La Gente

Mas o menos 2.000 personas habitan Makongeni. La gente local indigena es los Digo. Digo es uno de los grupos etnicos más grandes conocidos como Mijikenda. Mijikendas son la gente native de la costa de Kenya y existe 9 grupos sub-etnicos que comparten una herencia relacionada cultural y linguistica.
Hoy un día, el pueblo contiene una accumulacíon de diferentes gentes de diferentes areas del país. A pesar de su diferencia de cultura, se mezclan y viven juntas en harmonía.

La vida social-economica

Su situacion geografica, la cercania del oceano Indio, ha influenciado tremendamente tanto el estilo de vida social como economica de la gente de Makongeni. El pueblo esta abrazado de una atmosfera amistosa donde todos son amigos de todos. La gente esta unida por una lazo fuerte de hermandad que causa cercanía entre todos.
Practicamente 95 porcien de la gente en el pueblo vive bajo del nivel de pobreza. Su existencia depende fuertamente del mar, tanto directamente como indirectamente. Durante muchos años hombres eran los que se occupaban de ganar el pan siendo los responsables de sustener sus familia con las nesecidades basicas como comida, ropa, etc. mientras que las mujeres se occupaban de la familia y las propiedades.
Aproximademente 50 porcien de los hombres son Pescadores. 20 porcien hace los trabajitos de vez en cuando dentro del pueblo para mantenerse. El resto trabaja en la industria floreciente de hostelería y turismo alrededor de Diani beach o lleva su pequeño negocio propio dentro del pueblo como por ejemplo un kiosko. Solo muy pocos afortunados consiguen un empleo del govierno. Ojo, la mayoría de los empleados son hombres.

La gente de Makongeni no es vaga. Son personas que trabajan mucho y decididas, pero su falta de educacion basica les previene la oportunidad de conseguir los trabajos alrededor de sus pueblos. Esto les hace dar cuenta, especialmente los mayores, de la importancia de educacíon. Y ahora mandan sus hijos a la escuela para ser educados. Pero esta iniciativa se enfrenta con el gran desafio de la pobreza.

Educacion

El sistema de educacíon es de 8-4-4 que siñifica 8 años de escuela primaria, 4 de secundaria y el resto de estudios avanzados como Universidad etc. En el pueblo hay una escuela primaria construida con el esfuerzo de la comunidad. Asi los habitants ahora disfrutan un poco del sabor de la educacíon occidental
La mayoría de los niños atienden la escuela primaria que les facilita una educacíon basica. Pocos afortunados reciben la oportunidad de atender secundaria, pero la mayoria deja de ir a estas Alturas por limitacíon economica. La educacíon terciaria como Universidad esta mucho más alla de las posibilidades de la mayoria de los padres de Makongeni.


Educacíon de niñas

La educacíon de niñas aun es elusivo por una combinacíon de muchos factores como pobreza, enfermedad y practices culturales antiguadas. Estos factores con otros menores pero comunes como embarazo no-deseado y bodas precoces impide a las niñas el derecho a la educacíon. A lo contrario de los niños las niñas se encuentra fuera de la escuela por varias razones. Muchas empiezan en una edad avanzada por su necesidad de trabajo de casa o el asistir a cuidar de sus herman@s peque@s.
La mayoria de la gente practica las costumbres tradicionales en las que los niños tienen preferencia sobre las niñas. Aquello ha influenciado que las niñas se sienten inferior y mas debil como menos inteligente que los niños. La realidad es que las niñas son eguales a los niños en estos aspectos y ademas las niñas enseñan que ellas tienen el potencial de “ir” mejor en la sociedad que los niños.
